It’s Friday the 13th and I’m blowing my nose and coughing like a maniac and it’s horrible. I hate being sick. Seriously, there’s something about having a cold and a scratchy throat that drives me insane. I would rather have food poisoning for a day or like, gangrene in my right foot. I just don’t understand how there is no cure for the common cold. I FEEL LIKE I’M TAKING CRAZY PILLS.
Anyways, I didn’t post a Friday Favorites list last week but I am going to try to do it fairly often when I can actually come up with stuff to put on the list. And this week a bunch of stuff came to mind, so here goes!
Sip-N-Glo is a juice shop with two locations in Philly. I have only ever been to the one on 20th and Rittenhouse and I love it! The shop is bright and clean, and you know that everything is fresh because it literally smells like someone just picked from their garden and grated some carrots into your nostrils. They even grind their own peanut butter!!!!
The first time I ever went I was coming from the gym and wanted a protein smoothie. My friend and I basically just listed all of the ingredients we were in the mood for (chocolate, protein, bananas, pb, almond milk, YUM) and the guy behind the counter was happy to whip up his own creation that was absolutely delicious! And when I joked that it better be good or I would return it, the woman assured me that I was welcome to do so as they pride themselves on satisfied customers (I assured her that I was kidding and I’m not actually that terrible of a person) but either way, great customer service.
I stopped by again on Tuesday for their 3rd anniversary where they were giving away free juice (radiantGlo and the Charcoal pineapple one - can’t remember the official name). I asked which juice would be better if I felt like I was coming down with something, and the girl suggested the Vitamin-C packed RadiantGlo. I swear as I was drinking it my sore throat stopped bothering me for the first time in 2 days. I tried the other flavor too, which I actually preferred taste-wise, though both were fresh and delish.
I walked there yesterday as well (I know, I know) and got a Wellness Flight, which consists of three 1 oz. shots served on a little tray. Wheatgrass, Immunity (ginger, lemon, echinacea, elderberry, zinc, topped with cayenne), and Healer (turmeric, lemon, oregano oil, cracked pepper), which I threw down and chased with water. They are for health, not taste. I definitely felt less stuffy and irritated for the rest of the afternoon, but unfortunately I still feel like poop this morning. Maybe I’ll have to casually pass by again ….
Adidas Workout Apparel
Whoever is the head of Adidas branding/marketing/design team is absolutely killing it these days. They have totally revamped their image and are back with a vengeance. They brought back the Adidas Originals as “vintage” and a lot of young people are really into it. Also, the Kardashians rock Adidas apparel all the time now. Whether you like them or not (I’m a fan), the stuff that they wear has a major influence on what a lot of girls and women buy and wear, so Adidas must be doing something right. I got an Adidas snake-skin trimmed duffel bag for Christmas that I absolutely love. Considering I am in and out of a gym setting multiple times a day, I like to wear athleisure-style clothes that can translate to street or even office wear rather than a ratty old t-shirt. They also have sick new sneakers that I keep finding myself drawn to but I haven’t bought non-Nike sneakers since I was maybe 12 so it will probably take a lot for me to finally try a pair. Also they are pretty well priced considering how popular (and expensive) workout clothes have become in recent years.
I was eating a Paleo-inspired diet for a few weeks (see paleo breakfast casserole) but I caved and went back to my protein oats (proats) for breakfast yesterday. I love oatmeal so even though I am still sticking to a mostly high fat and high protein diet, sometimes I gotsta have my oats. I make blueberry vanilla and nut butter oats and they are so. good. I do ½ cup of organic old fashioned rolled oats, ½-1 full scoop of Quest vanilla protein powder (this is a Whey protein, so not Paleo, but there are tons of nondairy options on the market), a handful of mini blueberries, and a tablespoon of nut butter (the best proats are made with vanilla maple fluffbutter. Or Justin’s vanilla maple almond butter, or any similar variety). I just throw it all together with some water and make it in the microwave, because as I said before I can’t actually cook and I am very lazy. HOLLA! I am looking for a non-whey vanilla protein powder that isn’t super high in calories per 1 serving. Any suggestions?
