Weekend Beach Trip
This weekend was spent down the shore in Ocean City NJ with all of my sisters and nieces and nephews. We stayed in an Air BnB on the bay block that worked out perfectly with enough beds, beach chairs, and beach tags for everyone! Friday ended up being cloudy and rainy but on Saturday I got prettttayy crispy, wooooops don’t tell my mom. Four kids and five sisters = extreme loud chaos so I’m sure the neighbors were happy to see us go on Sunday afternoon.
I packed a 30lb kettlbell, a set of dumbbells, a round resistance band, and some resistance tubes with handles for the weekend so that I could try to get at least one workout in, since I would be there for 3 full days and had skipped my workout on Wednesday as well. I got to the shore house a little before 9am on Friday, and my sister Kristen and I got in a front lawn workout together to start the morning off (perfect way to start the day after being in the car for over an hour). We went through a workout that she got from her trainer (she lives in Connecticut, otherwise I’m sure that she would hire ME). The workout included 2 circuits with pushups, deadlifts, single leg RDLs, get-ups, planks, and rows with our resistance tubing wrapped around the posts of the front porch. Even though it was a 3 circuit workout we ended up tired and sweaty from two and decided to call it, since we would be chasing kids around for the rest of the day anyways (yeah yeah excuses excuses).
On Saturday I planned to wake up at 6:30 and go for a boardwalk run before it got too crowded and hot and sunny, but naturally being on vacation I didn’t end up going until 9am, hehehe. I also ate a bakery-fresh sticky bun before I went, soo0ooo yeah. Like almost all of my runs, it was a combination of walking, jogging, and maybe 2 sprints. I don’t really like running but I thought the boardwalk scenery would at least make it entertaining. I ran into a flag raising ceremony on the boardwalk where people had gathered to watch and listen to the National Anthem play as two American flags were raised at the top of a storefront. As my niece said when I got home and told everyone: “wow that is like, the story of your life”. True statement. God Bless America.
My run ended on a bench where I threw in some triceps dips, single leg squats, mountain climbers, bench jumps, and Russian twists. A middle aged not-so-in-shape guy stopped to rest on the same bench and attempted some mountain climbers with me, and then exclaimed that he needed a beer and a cigarette for his efforts. See, boardwalk workout = entertainment.
I was wandering the boardwalk hoping to find a Starbucks or somewhere that I could get an iced coffee and I ended up finding Yoasis, which was a smoothie, yogurt, Acai, coffee shop (INSERT HEART EYE EMOJI HERE X 1,000). I got an almond milk, almond butter, banana, honey, acai bowl topped with granola, unsweetened shredded coconut, carob nibs, and banana and an iced coffee with almond milk. It was likeeeeee the best thing I ever could have found and also the perfect snack for a hot ass beach day.
Sunday was rest day, sleep in, nap on the beach, etc. But I did do one round of squats on the beach. With my sister sitting on my shoulders. Just for shits and gigs. She weighs less than the heaviest that I can squat so I knew I would be able to do it, but it was still a lil harder than I expected. Maybe because I was in a bikini. Who knows! I did 4 squats though!
Even though I tried to eat decently all weekend I still had ice cream on the boardwalk and French toast for Sunday breakfast. But I got two workouts in which I usually tell myself I’ll do but don’t actually do while I’m away on vacation. Success!!
