A Memory a Day

Wow woww wowww my glutes are SO sore today. I could’ve sworn I was killin’ it with my workouts, but yesterday kicked my ass. In an effort to change up my routine I subscribed to Ashley Horner’s free, 6 week “Charlie Mike” training program. Ashley Horner is a trainer, gym owner, coffee/whiskey bar owner, former single mom, and she recently ran 280 miles to raise awareness for domestic abuse. You read that right. 280 MILES. STRAIGHT. She’s pretty much the coolest person I’ve never met. (you can find the program here)

Anyways, I did day 1 of her program yesterday and it was HARD. While I’m capable of putting my own programming together, as I have been for the past few months, I enjoy trying new things and learning from other professionals. Today’s workout will start with my bench press 1RM (1 rep max) testing, and since I hardly ever bench it should be…interesting. Who wants to spot me?! I took “before” pictures yesterday, and while I am mostly doing this program to try to challenge myself and shake up my routine, I am still interested to see what changes there might be after 6 weeks. Here is a snippet from the program overview: “Charlie Mike is not for beginners. It's specifically designed for women who are physically and mentally ready to perform challenging lifts and hard-as-nails conditioning work. If you're not there, I don't want you to pretend you are.” YIKES. Stay tuned!

Aside from this new workout programming, I have come up with a new personal project that I want to commit myself to. Today I ordered a pack of colorful gel pens and a dot grid notebook. My plan is to jot down the date at the end of each day and write down one “standout” memory from that day. I feel like I always find myself at the end of summer thinking “aw man summer’s over and I barely did anything!” so this way I can go back and remind myself of all of the great days that I had. I’m hoping it will also inspire me to go out and do more so that I have even more to write down! So far since Memorial Day weekend I’ve got a weekend down the shore, two concerts, a weekend in Connecticut, and other small memories. I can’t wait for the notebook to come on Thursday so I can get started makin’ pretty journal entries. Thank you amazon prime! (p.s. it is currently amazon prime day…get to shoppin!)
