Start Somewhere: Cardio Edition

Start Somewhere: Cardio Edition

Yesterday was the first time in about 5 days that I actually got into the gym (although I did a home workout) since the whole pipe bursting/flooding incident. Slash also my general laziness. I finally felt that feeling again that I was having for a while when I was super motivated – I was excited as bajeezus to go the gym after work. I picked out my outfit the night before and everything! I made up a 3-part circuit workout on the fly and got SUPA DUPA shweaty. Pete Shweddy, Shweddy balls.

ANYWAYS, that workout looked a lil something like this:

for reference: I used a 60lb. bar C1 and 30lb. C2

After that, I forced myself to do some straight up cardio. Not HIIT, not a 45-minute walk, but the regular ol’ middle of the road stuff. Here’s the thing – doing hours of cardio is not the answer for changing your body the way that people think it is, especially compared to weight training. Oh Lord how I love weights. But it is good for your cardiovascular health (Cardio – GET IT?!).

And while I will sometimes switch up my strength-focused workouts to include some HIIT, or jump roping, or circuits in order to get my heart rate up, I really don’t do much. Like, never kind of. So I hopped on the ol’ elliptical for 15 minutes followed by 5 on the stairmill. It’s also a mental challenge for me, because I always walk out of the gym and pretend the cardio equipment isn’t staring me in the face. Or tell myself I'm gonna end my workout with sprint intervals, and then magically run out of time. Sometimes it's extra rewarding to accomplish something you wouldn't normally do. I popped on a make-up tutorial video, which for me is the equivalent of meditating, and it was all over in no time! 15 minutes might not sound like much of anything, but it’s better than zero minutes. Gotta start somewhere peeps, because not only does it add up over time, but it gets easier with time as well!
